Face Masks – Rights & Wrongs
When you go to work and don your personal protective equipment (PPE), you might be making the most common mistake with your face mask. To help you know the right and wrong ways to wear your mask, the professionals at Total Source Manufacturing have put together 4 tips on proper mask usage.
Put your mask on
· Right: When you are preparing to put on your mask, and before you ever touch it, make sure you wash your hands with soap and water. Then, carefully pull one mask from the dispenser, making sure the lighter side is inside as you put it on over your ears. Adjust the metal nose bar for comfort and cover the mouth, nose and chin completely.
· Wrong: Touch the inside of the mask with unwashed hands. Or, leave the nose exposed, the nose and mouth exposed, or the chin exposed.
Talk through your mask
· Right: Resist the urge to lower your mask to be heard by others. Raise your voice slightly and enunciate for better communication.
· Wrong: Drape your mask over one ear when you need to talk to coworkers or speak on the phone.
Touching the mask
· Right: Do not touch the mask when you are wearing it. You could cause cross-contamination to occur.
· Wrong: Pull it forward frequently in an attempt to get fresh air or to adjust it.
Take your mask off
· Right: Wash your hands with soap and water. Remove your mask using the ear loops or strings. Place it in the appropriate disposal bin, such as a medical bin, or put it in a plastic bag for temporary storage until you can find an appropriate trash bin.
· Wrong: Yank your mask off touching the front of the mask. Leave it sitting around your work station or in your locker.
